A new interactive addition to Zagreb Airport's Museum zone brings together the story of Croatia's national symbols and the universal feeling of home.
The Museum Zone in the passenger terminal of Zagreb Airport has welcomed its first expansion. The exhibition "Stars of Croatian History: The Sky Is Their Limit. Get to Know Them!", developed in partnership with the Croatian History Museum, now features its 25th star - the Croatian flag.
The new interactive display explores the history of one of Croatia's most recognizable national symbols, guiding visitors through the story of the Croatian flag and coat of arms. It reveals fascinating insights into the origins of the flag, its evolution through history and the meaning of the historic coats of arms incorporated into its modern design. Designed to engage visitors of all ages, the exhibition offers an accessible and interactive way to discover an important part of Croatia's heritage.
A special highlight of the new installation is a large world map featuring the word "home" in numerous languages. Visitors are invited to find their own language and mark the place they consider home, transforming the exhibit into a shared map of personal stories created by thousands of passengers travelling through the airport each day. In this way, the exhibition becomes a place where cultures, journeys and personal connections come together.
The exhibition design was created by Nikolina Jelavić Mitrović, while author Jelena Roboz explained that her goal was to present the story of the Croatian flag in a simple, engaging and interactive way, emphasizing its role as a witness to some of the country's most significant historical events as well as countless personal moments.
The presentation was further enriched by a historical interpretation of Ban Josip Jelačić, portrayed in a faithfully reconstructed ceremonial uniform from his 1848 inauguration alongside the predecessor of today's Croatian flag, attracting considerable attention from visitors.
Located beyond the security checkpoint in the passenger terminal, the Museum Zone continues to evolve as a unique space where Croatian history and culture meet travelers from around the world.
