Sustainability Committee convened with participation of leading experts, institutions, and the local community
On Friday, May 22, 2026, Zagreb Airport hosted a meeting of the Sustainability Committee, bringing together a wide range of experts, institutional representatives, and business partners with the aim of strengthening cooperation and further advancing sustainable practices in the aviation sector.
The meeting was opened and chaired by Gabrijela Abramović, who emphasized the importance of joint action by all stakeholders: “Sustainable development requires continuous effort, as well as open dialogue and cooperation among all stakeholders involved.”
The Committee’s agenda covered key topics such as noise management, waste management, energy efficiency, emission reduction, biodiversity management, the OLGA EU project, and cooperation with the local community. During the meeting, particular attention was given to challenges and opportunities in the areas of noise management and the environmental impact of air traffic, optimisation of waste management systems, emission reduction and energy efficiency, air quality monitoring and biodiversity protection, digitalisation and the OLGA project - Holistic Green Airport and regulatory measures and financing of the green transition.
The Committee brought together numerous partners from the aviation, public, and business sectors as well as representatives of Zagreb Airport. Participants from the aviation and operational sector included representatives of Croatia Control Ltd., Havas Ground Handling Services, Croatia Airlines as well as Resalta and DARH 2. In the fields of waste management and sustainability, participants included representatives of BTA Croatia and SDA Croatia, as well as consultancy firms Vita Projekt and Infra Plan Consulting.
The meeting was also attended by representatives of key institutions, including Ministry of the Sea, Transport and Infrastructure, Ministry of Environmental Protection and Green Transition, Ministry of Economy, Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Croatia and Croatian Civil Aviation Agency. The local community was actively involved through representatives of the City of Velika Gorica as well as representative of the Dumovec Local Committee.
It was concluded that sustainable airport development cannot be achieved without an integrated approach and long-term cooperation among all stakeholders.
Only through a joint approach and knowledge sharing can we address the increasingly complex challenges of sustainable development in aviation!
The outcomes and conclusions of the meeting provide a foundation for further activities and the development of sustainable initiatives at Zagreb Airport, alongside continued active cooperation with partners and the local community.
